Recent reports suggest Christine Elliott, former leadership hopeful, will soon be appointed as the candidate for the Progressive Conservatives in Newmarket-Aurora – replacing the current candidate, Charity McGrath. More than a week ago, Elliott was defeated by new PC leader Doug Ford in a harrowing vote (50.6%-49.4% electoral votes) – the announcement of which was delayed due to her campaign contesting the results.
Newmarket-Aurora has had a troubled nomination history of late with association executives resigning to protest the legitimacy of a prior nomination race. In that race, which saw Charity McGrath win, allegations surfaced that the victor packed the nomination meeting with fraudulent members and received favoured access to the voter contact list. Many expressed their disappointment that Newmarket-Aurora was denied an appeal to the party for review despite the serious allegations facing McGrath’s campaign.
Elliott was formerly the MPP for Whitby—Oshawa and Whitby—Ajax. P.J Fournier from QC125.com is predicting a reliable win (98%) for the PCs in Newmarket-Aurora.
